Exhibition and vernissage of the artist from the Oberberg district, Horst Janzen
Thursday, 19th September 2024, 12:15 pm - 02:00 pm
(admittance from 11:45 am on)
Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the European Union, Rue Montoyer 47, 1000 Brussels
Having fled East Prussia at the end of the Second World War, Horst Janzen made North Rhine-Westphalia (first Oberhausen, then Bergneustadt) his home. Both city life and rural Oberberg inspired him greatly and were frequent motifs in his paintings and drawings. The relationship of man to nature, and thus to his environment, plays an important role in Horst Janzen’s entire production. He died of cancer in 1978 at the age of 48.As an autodidact, he has always been keen on experimenting and creativity in his art, using old material, such as organ pipes or brake pedals, and giving them a new life. His free spirit and joy in collecting and processing any kind of objects, as well as the richness of his artistic variety, mean that Horst can not be categorised as artist in any particular style. His work ranges from impressionist work to expressionism to surrealism.
