As part of Human Rights Week, the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the German Bar Association invite you to a screening of the documentary film ‘Seven Winters in Tehran’. The film tells the true story of Reyhaneh Jabbari, a young student from Tehran.

While at work, Reyhaneh is attacked by an older man who attempts to rape her. Acting in self-defence, she stabs him to death. Reyhaneh is subsequently arrested, convicted of murder and sentenced to death. Despite national and international campaigns for her release, the Iranian judiciary insists on the ‘right of blood revenge’. If Reyhaneh does not withdraw her accusations, the man's family may demand her execution.

This multi-award-winning film received the German Human Rights Film Award in December 2024, among other honours. Following the screening, director and screenwriter Steffi Niederzoll and Shole Pakravan, Reyhaneh Jabbari's mother, will discuss the making of the film and its background.
